The Fight Against Cancer
DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES,
On behalf of the organizing committee, we warmly welcome you to join the 5th NCIS Annual Research Meeting (NCAM) 2018, to be held on 3rd and 4th August 2018. NCAM 2017 was successfully held on 30th June 2017, and attracted more than 270 registrants and close to 134 scientific abstracts. The meeting created a forum for clinicians and scientists to interact and showcase their cancer research work on the NCIS campus. Major research advancements in recent years have heightened the need for understanding and interpreting big data, in order to facilitate its application in cancer research and practice. This year’s theme of ‘Medical Informatics: From Big Data to Precision Oncology’ will address this important topic in cancer research. On day 1, we will have a full-day program including educational sessions, oral and poster presentations of submitted abstracts, and award presentation for the best abstracts. We welcome you to submit abstracts on cancer research in the following four categories: basic science, clinical science, translational science, and nursing/paramedical/supportive care. Selected abstracts will be presented on day 1 at the main meeting. In addition, this year’s NCAM will feature a half-day workshop on day 2 that will focus on imparting basic research skills to junior clinician researchers to start their research projects and collaborations.
This conference will provide an excellent platform for cancer physicians and researchers in Singapore to interact and develop future collaborations. We look forward to welcoming you to the 5th NCIS Annual Research Meeting (NCAM) 2018.

If so, the NCAM 2018 Research Workshop: From Idea to PubMed is for you!
We would like to invite junior clinicians, allied health professionals and any individuals who are keen to get started with research to attend. The workshop aims to give an overview of the research process, from research idea conception to manuscript submission.
This year, we have invited a team of distinguished researchers to share with us their experiences with us, and to guide us through the various stages of research. They are Prof Chng Wee Joo, Prof Jason Phua, Dr Chan Yiong Huak, Dr Yong Wei Peng and Dr Soon Yu Yang. Topics covered will include: doing a literature review, determining and selective outcome measures, statistics and manuscript writing.
In conjunction with NCAM 2018, the research workshop: From Idea to PubMed hopes to serve as a platform to promote healthcare research in Singapore for the betterment of our patients.
Stay tuned to our program agenda for more information.
